Dear Baby Blogworthy,
This past few months has been fun, hasn't it? We've done so many fun things together as a family. We've visited Downtown Disney, got strawberry-fied at the Strawberry Festival, smelled the stinky animals at the zoo, walked around Gainesville for babies.
You know what else has been fun? The five-month sleepover we've been having! It's great! Remember that time you would only sleep for 1 hour at a time? How about the month you slept in your carseat because you wouldn't sit anywhere else? Oh, we've had a blast, especially around five AM. Let's see....you've been in your swaddle blanket for about four of these five months, and I re-swaddle you about three times every night, so that means I've tightened up your sleep sack 360 times! Wow, it only feels like 250!
All good things must come to an end. It's better you start learning that now before you have too many disappointments in life. That's why it's time for you to mosey along to your own room.
Listen, Baby Blogworthy, we basically spent the better part of six months getting that room ready for you. It has everything a baby could need: darkness; white noise; a small nightlight; a soft, cozy crib. A FAN. You know, Mommy never had a fan growing up. Just color yourself spoiled.
Basically, Mommy wants her room back. She wants to get ready for bed without tiptoeing around your basinette. She wants to read in bed with the light on. She wants to watch a few minutes of TV before she hits the hay. She wants to be able to say goodnight to Daddy without having to SHHH him for being too loud. She wants to sleep at night without hearing you thrash around, trying to stick your toes in your mouth in your sleep.
No, no, no. Just stop it right now with the big, sad eyes. It's for your own good. I'm sure you'll sleep much better without Daddy snoring three feet away from you.
On second thought, maybe I'll move to your room, too.
I also think it's time for you to think about maybe possibly considering a move outside your swaddle blanket. What do you say? I mean, as much as I'd enjoy another 100 re-swaddles, I just have this gut feeling that you'd really enjoy sprawling out and rolling around. I mean, really, you're missing 10 or more hours of putting your feet in your mouth. Those toes won't suck themselves.
And say! While we're on the subject, hows about reverting back to the way you slept about three weeks ago? You know, all, go to bed at 8:30, wake up at 5 to nurse, go back to sleep until I wake you up for the day. Those were good times! Why do you want to get up every three hours and scream at me? Is it because I'm so beautiful? I bet it is. Don't worry, Mommy will be beautiful in the morning, too. In fact, I'm going out a limb here, but I might even be MORE beautiful when it's not 1 am!
So your take aways are: sleep in your own crib, without a swaddle, for several hours un-interrupted. Operation Sleep Like a Baby is commencing. Ready? GO!
Love,
Mommy
So this is where y'all come in. I need to wean him off his swaddle and help him soothe himself to sleep when he wakes up. I've tried soothing him without picking him up to try and "coach" him to put himself back to sleep, but he just gets hysterical and makes it worse. I'm worried the longer this goes on, the harder it will be to break the habit. And I feel like maybe he's playing me a tiny bit.
Please no judgys here, just want to know WWTID (what would the internet do)?
3.) What is going on in the bedroom? Describe a memorable sleeper.

Wordless Wednesday: My apologies to Iowa
At my hubby's school, the name of the annual standardized test is IOWA. In an attempt to get the kids excited about the upcoming test, all the teachers dressed like they were from Iowa.

This is my husband's idea of an Iowaian (Iowa-ite?)
He's never been to Iowa.
I'm sorry, Iowa.

Las Vegas: Two Tales of One City
Las Vegas. Disney World for adults. What happens in Vegas....you know the rest.
I have many fond and not so fond memories from two separate trips to Sin City, so gather round ye olde blog, friends, and let me weave a couple tales of vacations past.
The first time I went to Vegas was with my ex-boyfriend, the Bowler. He financed our trip by spending many a night playing poker online with real cash money. I'm 80% sure it was illegal and am 100% sure it was sketchy and off-shore. I also thought it was crazy until his winnings allowed us to eat at nice places and go to shows, then I didn't care as much.
We stayed at the Monte Carlo. I thought I would be super trendy and cute, so I brought only high heeled boots. All I knew of Las Vegas was what I'd learned through movies and TV, where sexy women are wearing sequined dresses and playing craps and drinking champagne. So basically, all I had were heels or nothing -- not even a slipper to cover my tootsies while I ran to the ice machine or something.
You know what there is a lot of in Vegas? WALKING. For miles I walked in those stupid high heeled boots. I'm really stubborn and hated to be wrong, so I pretended like all was FINE just FINE, I walk in boots ALL THE TIME SO SHUT UP. No, I always walk this way IT'S NOT A LIMP.
Oh, and I also need to mention it was December and I was pale as a ghost. I thought I'd brighten up my complexion with a little trip to the tanning bed before we left, ended up laying too long for my first visit in hopes of speeding up the process, and was shedding much like a snake the entire trip.
Bleeding, mangled toes? Check! Red, peeling skin? Check! Sounds great, right?
It got better.
We were walking through the casinos one night, hopping from one to the next and looking out for my favorite slot machine, STAMPEDE! (If you got three buffaloes in a row, it said stampede and went haywire. Guess you had to be there?) I found one and threw a couple quarters in and didn't win, so we moved on. A few casinos away, I realized I'd left my purse at the machine. We ran back and it was gone, long gone, in a casino of all places. I didn't have much money, but I did have my cell phone, lipstick, a few other odds and ends. By the grace of God, I had my license in my pocket and left my car keys and all but one credit card in the hotel. We talked to security and filed a report, realizing I'd probably never see those things again. The remaining card was canceled and I proceeded to have a meltdown of epic proportions.
That night, while I was crying my eyes out over my misfortune, my ex-boyfriend spent hours in the Monte Carlo casino gambling. No surprise that relationship didn't last.
This trip happened right around Christmas. A few days after we got home, right before New Year's Eve, a packaged arrived at the condo, addressed to me. I opened it and it was my purse with everything still inside, less the handful of change. The purse included a note that said simply, "I found your purse and used the change to send it back." No identifying information, no return address.
It was sort of a Christmas miracle.
The second trip was a few years later, my last spring break trip while I was a carefree college student. I believe it was 2004, and I went with my BFF Candace, who was from a small town in West Virginia and at that point had never flown. Ever. After the fun flight on a SOUTHWEST AIRLINES plane, we landed in Vegas and proceeded to have a blast for four days. I wont' get into details because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? but a few things I'll never forget:
Anyone else have some Las Vegas memories?

- Walking for a dance club back to our hotel armed with nothing but my chain metal belt, which I claimed I'd use as a deadly weapon if anyone tried to "mess with us"
- Calling our friend who'd flaked out at the last minute, leaving a message that said she's missing out on a lot of hot guys and then marking the message as urgent
- How blonde and skinny I was in 2005
| Blonde. Skinny. Belly shirt? I thought I was fat here BTW. |

Prince charming lives at my house
I was going to save this for my anniversary, but I decided to Pour my Heart Out today instead.
My husband is a living, breathing prince charming. No, it's not because he's super classy or rich or puts his boxers in the laundry basket. Or because he always puts his dishes in the dishwasher (because he doesn't). It's mostly because he treats me like a princess.
When Hub and I met, I didn't want a relationship. I liked things the way they were. I'm not saying it was love at first sight, but I was definitely smitten from the beginning. Things moved pretty fast with us, but we both just knew from very early that we were each other's "one".
My relationship with my husband doesn't define my life, it enhances it. His strengths are my weaknesses and vice versa. We're truly the perfect match -- neither of us are perfect, but we're perfect for each other.
He makes me laugh all the time. No one else might think it was funny, but I do. He's silly, crazy, and downright witty. He's very handsome, too. His smile can light up a room. Today I was talking with my Mom and she said he could "charm a snake" -- she didn't mean that in a bad way, just in a way that he can make the nastiest, grumpiest person happy.
He stands up for me and fights for me. For our family. When we were having issues with the daycare person over how much milk I was giving the baby, he calmly explained to her how breastfeeding worked, how it's different, what to expect. He had listened to every word I told him, even when I didn't think he was listening.
He's my shelter in a storm.
My husband is caring -- the most sensitive, caring man I've ever met. He has a soft heart for animals. We've adopted five cats and one dog, and we've fostered more than I can count. He can't say no. I don't want him to.
He's a tremendous father. Absolutely amazing. Hub plays with Luke, makes funny faces, sings songs and helps him play with toys. I'll say it here for all the Internet to see -- Hub was the first person to make Luke smile a real smile. Along with the love comes worry. He worries about Luke all the time and sometimes it drives me to the nuthouse, but it's out of love for our little blessing.
He also cares about me deeply and purely. He knows exactly what to say when I'm at my breaking point. Last night I was exhausted. I hadn't stopped from the time I stepped out of bed until the second I stepped back in. He rolled over and spoke over the white noise of our sound machine, whispering so we didn't wake up the baby: "You're my best friend and a wonderful wife and mother. You're doing awesome. I love you."
Hearing those words gives me the renewed spirit to get up the next day and do it all over again.
I was lucky to grow up in a home with an outstanding father. He reads this blog, I know he does. He checks it all the time. Hi Dad, thank you for showing me what a husband and father should be.
Hub doesn't read my blog, but he should. Hi Hubby, thank you for being the best husband and father to my son I could ever wish for. You're my prince charming.

Love Letter to my future teenager
Dear Luke,
As I'm writing this, you're 2 months old.
Sweet boy, you've been a joy to us, an incredible blessing. You've grown my heart to lengths I never thought existed. You're starting to discover the world: the mobile above your bed, your little hands, our faces. You laugh when Daddy and I don't know what we're doing, like the time I put two legs in one leg hole. You thought that was hilarious.
You also laugh when we're just looking at your beautiful, innocent face. That smile melts my heart every time.
But by the time you read this letter, you'll be a teenager. You can put on your own pants and probably don't think it's funny anymore when we don't know what we're doing (I'm sure you'll think we NEVER know what we're doing). Long gone will be the days when just looking at us made you smile, but I'm sure that smile will still melt my heart.
If you're like your Daddy, you'll love sports. You'll probably be playing a few, too. I'm sure I'll spend lots of nights and weekends sitting on cold, hard bleachers or lawn chairs on a sideline.
Baseball and basketball are fine, but you'll play football over my dead body.
Soon you'll be bringing home girlfriends. It might start with a girl who you swear is a friend, nothing more, but you text (or whatever kids are doing 15 years in the future) with her non-stop. Or it might be a date to homecoming. Or hanging out at a football game.
Son, it's important that no matter how you meet your first little girlfriend, you should treat her well. Hold doors for her, answer her phone calls. Call her back. Listen to her. Surprise her with her favorite things. Don't take her for granted. Above all, treat her with respect.
Also, remember this: no matter what girl rushes in or out of your life, your Mommy loved you first. And if that girl breaks your heart? I will cut her.
There, I said it. Right there on the Internet for all and sundry to read. My heart will burn with hate for any girl who breaks yours.
I probably won't like her at first. I might not like her EVER. There may be other girls that come around who I will also hate. Someday the right one will come along and I will like her, but expect me to want to break most of their legs.
Sorry, son, but you're my precious little boy and ain't no girl out there good enough for you.
Love, Mommy

Ten ways to make me happy
In an effort to keep up with my blog while I'm getting back in the groove, I decided to start using some prompts from Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop. I've been reading them all over the blogosphere (yes, Blogger, that's a word) and have always been impressed with what bloggers come up with. So here it goes:
Kat asked us to write a list of 10 things that make us smile when we're unhappy. I'm a simple girl and simple things make me happy. I don't need to spend a lot of money or go to some elaborate lengths for a grin. Here is my list, least smiley to most smiley.
10. Dairy Queen. Specifically, their new Double Fudge Cookie Dough Blizzard. I ate so many of these during my pregnancy that it's no wonder my baby came out 8 lbs 10 oz. I know food doesn't equal happiness, but sometimes when you're in a crappy mood, nothing but chocolate can do the trick.
9. Shopping clearance sales. I'm not a shopper by nature. I can't just go into a store and browse and buy some regular priced merch. That's not for me nor my bank account. Clearance? That's another animal. I get such a charge from finding great deals and markdowns and it always lifts my spirits. Kohls is my favorite place to find clearance stuff. I'm proud to say almost my whole closet consists of clothing items that are $10 or less.
8. A nice, hot shower. There is something so calming about a hot shower, especially when you add in good smelling soaps and lotions after. Plus, tears just combine with the water. Good place for a cry.
7. Listening to country music. I know it can be hokey. I know it's not for everyone. But for some reason, it always makes me grin -- especially the songs about drinking, small down life and having fun. It reminds me of a simpler time, when my girlfriends and I spent Thursday nights at the Wild Dawg Saloon, having a blast and line-dancing the night away.
6. Buying new makeup. But Amanda, this is buying something. YOU ARE A LIAR. Well, this is different. I love shopping online for makeup from a store called Eyes Lips Face. Almost all their stuff is $1 or less. Not only is it good quality and a good value, but it makes me feel pretty and that's important when you can't find the time for mascara anymore.
5. Running. Lord, it's been a long time since I had a good, long run. In fact, it's been since before we bought our house, a year and a half ago. I always loved getting on the treadmill and running my anxieties out, and being a new Mom, I'm full of anxieties. I got a treadmill for Christmas and I'm ready to get running again. My goal is to be able to run a 5k before the Breast Cancer runs start in October. That gives me 9 months to get in shape.
4. Dinner out. Which is interesting because usually cooking dinner in is what gives me the sads in the first place. There's something about having someone else cook, serve me and clean up that gets me grinning.
3. TV. Like, pretty much any kind of mindless television. Reality TV (obs), sitcoms, old sitcoms (I'm looking your direction Golden Girls marathon on WE), E! Television, shows about bringing babies home, the list goes on and on.
2. My husband. He has an uncanny ability to make me laugh no matter how sad or angry I am. It's helped him avoid a plethora of arguments over the years and has also kept me sane. He knows exactly what to say to take me from tears to laughter, and he's one of the funniest people I know. His humor is so silly and unexpected that you can't help but smile.
1. My son. His smile makes me smile, his cry makes me smile (well -- you know...) his sweet, breathy coos make me smile.

This baby is ruining my whole fall
The past two years, Hubby and I have imbibed in wines and delicious foods from around the world at the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. It has all of our favorite things:
Besides, how could we spend weekends at Disney World, enjoying delicious food and wine, when we've invested a small fortune in the NFL, NBA and college football packages on DirecTV? Blasphemy.
When I started seeing commercials for the Food & Wine Festival, I got a little case of the sads. We always went for the booze and stayed for the delightfully lame entertainment: Enrique Inglesias. Taylor Hicks. Air Supply.
So, no booze. No tasty, international dishes. No Jon Secada or Hanson.
But I'm having a baby, so that totally makes up for it.
But then I saw a Tweet that rocked my world:
- Food
- Wine
- Disney World

Um.
Excuse me?
Boyz II Men.
Boyz. Two Capital "i"s. MEN?
ONLY my favorite R&B quartet in 1995. ONLY giving a FREE concert at Epcot.
Kaching! and Jackpot! If only......................................................
Baby Blogworthy, you have really put me in a pickle now, what with your sitting on my bladder so I have to pee every three seconds, and your big, hard head all but stopping the circulation in my legs, giving me a wicked cankle, and your little toes kicking my bronchial tubes so I sound like an asthmatic old man. And now making me MISS OUT on this concert.
I wont' soon let you forget the year you were happily baking away while I had to miss Boyz II Men's big theme park comeback, and don't you EVEN think I won't bring it up.
Baby Blogworthy: Mom, I don't want to clean my room because I want to go play with my friends instead.Me: Well I didn't want to miss the Boyz II Men concert in November 2010, but I did because I was giving life to you.
And so forth. I'm all about the passive aggressive behavior.
Have you ever missed an amazing event because of some other amazing event? Isn't this a sad, sad story? Did you rock out to Boyz II Men back in the day?
Hey HEY hey, word nerd!

For your Halloween enjoyment, I present the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
Opulence. They has it.
Bravo has graciously given us another gaggle of *frightful* women who have decidedly more money than sense. I can't figure out how this one is different than the original Real Housewives of OC, because the new crew all seem just as tanned, fake and *zombie*-like as the original OCs, but somehow it's different. Let's not question Bravo's motives too closely, shall we?
Meet the characters:
Then before or after - I don't know, there was so much awesome that it all blended together - the ladies went to a classy restaurant and acted foolish while Kim demonstrated her competence in the art of bitchface and Lisa's dog licked everyone's plates. *spooky*
Oh, also in the episode, Kim (whose hair I would seriously cut someone for), talks about how one time, she was out to dinner with her niece, PARIS HILTON, and the papparazi was all, KIM! KIM! Over here! And PARIS HILTON was all, "Um, Aunt Kim why are they taking pictures of you and not me?" and the Paps said, "Don't forget PARIS HILTON, your Aunt Kim was here first!" and Kim was all, "that's right, niece PARIS HILTON, I was here first!" (snaps fingers in the air in the shape of a Z)(What a sad, pitiful little life she leads.)
Later, at Kim's house, she's getting ready to move into ahaunted house house that's way too big and expensive for her (it's not necessary for me to make this show scarier than it already is), and her sister Kyle comes over to help her move and they suddenly start screaming at each other about how the other is really ungrateful, and color me confused with the problems of rich people.
So there you go. If that isn't as scary as your regular, everyday SCREAM or Nightmare on Elm Street, I don't know what is.
Can anyone who is familiar with the culture and society of Beverly Hills and/or Orange County explain to me how these two shows are different? Doesn't Real Housewives of Atlanta basically trump both of them? How appropriate is this show for Halloween, anyway?

Bravo has graciously given us another gaggle of *frightful* women who have decidedly more money than sense. I can't figure out how this one is different than the original Real Housewives of OC, because the new crew all seem just as tanned, fake and *zombie*-like as the original OCs, but somehow it's different. Let's not question Bravo's motives too closely, shall we?
Meet the characters:
- Lisa VanderPump-Todd - "Restaurant Owner" "Entrepreneur" "Dog owner" (the last one is for real). Apparently, a type of Beverly Hills rich lady whose children have long left the nest and replaced them with dogs. Tiny, skittish little dogs. With bows and sweaters who drink Fuiji water out of gold plated bowls and who poop in handbags that cost more than my entire closet of clothing. She lives in a palatial home with her husband, a crap-ton of dogs, and a personal trainer/friend/hanger-on/squatter/possibly gay BFF who is approximately 30 years younger. Don't worry, her husband is cool with it. Unless he's not gay, in which case he might have a Situation on his hands. Lisa hasn't seen her original face since 1982.
- Adrienne Maloof-Nassif - Part of some high-powered West Coast family who owns, like, half of Vegas and the Sacramento Kings. She's also kind of bad ass -- like she did some ninja karate move on her son and slammed him on the ground just so she could prove to her plastic surgeon husband that she was a tough broad (mission...accomplished) *spooky*
- Kyle Richards - Famous for being an "actress" in the 70s. Also Paris Hilton's aunt. Also likes to make babies when she's not working. *spooky*
- Kim Richards - Famous for being in Escape from Witch Mountain when she was a child, never learned any type of social interaction skills, and now has tons of money, lots of kids and lungs that are filled with helium (apparently) (judging by the way she talks) (which is super annoying) (and she also hates everyone). *spooky*
- Camille Grammer - Married to Kelsey Grammer for one hot second, or enough hot seconds for her to have two children with him. OH WAIT. She didn't actually give birth to her children, she had them via surrogate even though she was perfectly capable of having them herself, just didn't want to lose her figure. I'm not making that up. And let's just say, Camille Grammer probably could use a hamburger. *spooky*
- Taylor Armstrong - I still can't figure out what she does. Wikipedia says she's founder of eImplement, Inc. That sounds made up. And Wikipedia can't even find that as it's own entry not associated with this show. And my high school in the hills of WV has an entry, and we only had 400 people total in the whole school, so I'm questioning the legitimacy of eImplement Inc. We all know that Wikipedia does not lie. Anyway, Taylor also likes to get botox in her temples so that it looks like she has face tumors, and stir the *cauldron* of drama amongst these lovely, *goulish* ladies. *spooky*
A very Scary and Rich *Boogey* Monster - Married to a hotelier and spends her days shopping, designing shoes for her new line of stilettos, and scaring innocent young children by jumping out of their closets during the witching hour.
Later, at Kim's house, she's getting ready to move into a

I'm in love with a grocery store AKA my best friend is back
I think my love of Publix supermarkets has been well documented in this blog.
Basically, it's the best grocery store ever. You walk into a Publix and just feel happy. It's bright and cheery and clean. All the employees greet you with a smile. The produce is fresh and so is the meat. Prices can be high, but they have Buy-on-get-one-free specials every week on really good stuff, and their coupon policy is amazing -- like they will literally take any old coupon you scrape off the sidewalk, even if it's for a lesser grocery store like Piggly Wiggly or Winn-Dixie. Yes, I live in the South.
For instance, let's say there is BOGO on Cheetos, and you have two coupons for 50 cents off one bag of Cheetos. You get to use BOTH coupons. And then Winn-Dixie put out a coupon for $1 off your next salty snack purchase. And Cheetos are $3 per bag. So then you walk your happy butt up to the register and say, "I'd like these Cheetos, good sir, and here are my coupons." You proudly hand them over and watch the savings.
Who doesn't want a receipt that looks like that? A crazy person with more money than sense, that's who.
And the very best part about Publix? It's the Publix Promise, which means if it rings up wrong, well my friend, you get that bad boy for free. AND it applies to BOGOs -- if they ring up wrong, you get them BOTH free.
Publix is basically the most magical place on earth.
So you can see why we'd be devastated when our local Publix, not a half-mile from our house, closed for renovations. It was like our best friend told us they were going to Europe for 9 months. We were bummed, but knew it was the best. For personal growth. I mean, we had other friends...friends located not even 2 miles from our house that were perfectly nice, clean and friendly, but we know our BEST friend like the back of our hand. This metaphor is quickly getting *wonky*. THIS IS WHAT PUBLIX MAKES ME DO.
Last Thursday was the grand opening for our Publix and it lived up to every expectation I had. Except that there was a line to get in. People were greeting each other, getting teary, definitely smiling a lot.
My coworkers and I showed up bright and early at 8 am - they all live close-by and it's "their" Publix, too - and it was life changing. Spectacular. You walk in and there is a whole display of apples and colorful fruit; a full-service bakery with delights such as freshly filled cannoli and pizza dough; a deli where you can buy subs and meat and cheese; a sushi stand, I mean it goes on and on.
We had a feast that morning fit for a king: cinnamon roll samples, donuts, orange juice, steak, pumpkin ice cream. And I don't think I need to tell you that I had some major heartburn for the rest of the day. WORTH IT.
And then I got my picture taken with the Publix mascot. His name is Plato....THE PUBLIXSAURS. Guys, I can't even make that up.
I had such a great time that I went with Hubby that evening and it was almost a beautiful disaster. Brand new grocery store + fully stocked shelves X two hungry people with no list = bad news
Do you have a Publix nearby? Does the name of this store make you slightly uncomfortable? Where do you shop? Have you ever had a shopping experience quite like this one?

My friend and old sorority sister, Miranda, tagged me in a "getting to know you" type of post! So anyway, while I'm working on that, get to know me a little better with these questions Miranda came up with!
So hope you guys enjoyed learning a little more about me, and now I want to learn about you!

1. What is your daily routine like? What time to you get up, go to bed, dinner routine, etc.
I am definitely a creature of habit. My routine goes a little something like this: get up at 7 to get ready for work. Get to work at 8 (takes about 20 minutes or so to get there). Work until 5. Come home and fix dinner. Clean up dinner. Take a shower. Watch whatever trash is on TV. Go to bed around 11. I bet y'all thought my life was infinitely more exciting, didn't you? Well it can't be all frosty taste tests all the time, people.
The weekend goes a little something like this: Get up at 9, eat breakfast, watch football -- I mean "watch" as in read magazines while my husband watches. Sometimes there is a little laundry thrown in there. Saturday is bed sheet changing/washing day, so I do some of that. Lunch, then a NAP that usually lasts 2 hours or more. That's just how we roll. Then we mess around the house, eat dinner, watch more football, and I basically dont' get dressed at all for an entire day.
2. What are things you do with your family for fun. And for those of you with children, what fun things to you like to do with your kids?
Clearly, I can't yet be too active with my child, but as far as Hubby and I go, we love to travel and see new places. We've been traveling together for almost 6 years and love experiencing new places together. Although I don't love sports, I do love seeing new sports stadiums and the cities they are in. He loves history, so we see lots of forts and battlefields, which even I can get into. We love cities with "charm": Savannah and Nashville are some of our favorites. We've been all over the South East, but on our list are Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, etc. We always wanted to go to Memphis, so that's on our list. And of course, we still have to explore the West. Our dream trip is to start in Washington or Oregon (we have a friend there) and just drive down the coast. I would love to see L.A. Also on our agenda: London, Italy, Germany, Greece. So either we'll be putting it off for a few years or our son will be a world traveler early.
3. What are your FAVORITE holiday traditions?
I really and truly love the holidays. Thanksgiving, you've got the the parade, the turkey, stuffing, rolls, GRAVY, green bean casserole (the only way I'll eat green beans), pumpkin pie, and carb comas. And maybe this year birthin' a baby. And then Christmas: I love the lights, the decorations, the smell of cinnamon, cookies, fudge and of course the birth of my Lord and Savior. My family always made Christmas season so special. We put up the tree usually the first Friday after Thanksgiving. We'd order pizza and unwrap every ornament individually, usually talking about the memories attached to it. Although my sister will tell you I rarely put AN ornament up, which is sort of true.
My favorite tradition is probably opening up gifts after Christmas Eve service. When I was a little girl, we used to go to the midnight service then come home and open our gifts from the family (so our "santa gifts" were main attraction on Christmas day). Yes, that meant finishing the unwrapping at 2 am. Christmas morning always included cinnamon rolls and watching Christmas specials all morning. Now that our baby will be here, Christmas will be a little different, but
4. What do you do when you want to relax and have some "me time" ?
I'll do one of two things: read blogs or watch TV. If Hubby isn't around, I will add eating Chipotle or some other place he doesn't like and painting my toes to that list. If it's summer (and especially if I'm near a pool), I love laying in the sun and reading a book or magazine. There's nothing more relaxing than that to me.
5. What is one of your favorite books you've read so far?
Ohh, this one is tough because I can't remember the last time I read a good book. I used to read every second of the day before my Hubby came along, but he's sort of hyperactive. I really enjoyed all the Harry Potter books, and I'm always drawn to "chick lit" -- beach books.
6. What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
Obviously, I adore reality TV:
- Dancing with the Stars
- Intervention, Project Runway, Austin & Santino, Jersey Shore
- Toddlers & Tiaras
- The Bachelor and Bachelorette
- Random celebrity gossip as seen on E! TV, including but not limited to E! News and E! True Hollywood story
- And my latest, Say Yes to the Dress, which kicks so much tail.
- Friends, 30 Rock or How I Met Your Mother DVDs
So hope you guys enjoyed learning a little more about me, and now I want to learn about you!
- Do you like sports or do you want to murder-train them? Which sports are your favorite, if you do like them?
- Which is better, chocolate or vanilla?
- What was your favorite vacation you've ever taken?
- If you could go the rest of your life without hearing about ONE celebrity or public figure, like if that person ceased to exist, which person would it be?
- Do you enjoy TV watching, and if so, what's your all time favorite show?
- What's your favorite kind of music?

I might be married to a gamer
We had an extremely important decision to make this weekend.
Sunday night we're just chilling and my husband randomly pauses whatever we were watching (probably football) (definitely football because that is the current torture he's putting me through) and turns on his PlayStation. He has three gaming systems -- I feel like that's necessary to note. I asked what he was doing, not that I minded him putting the temporary kibosh on the stupid football game, but because WHY ARE WE GAMING? What is that important?
Apparently, two very super fun and interesting and not at all like the 2010 version that came out last year games were launching on Tuesday. And he had to decide quickly which one he needed.
Like I said, it was very important.
So he downloaded two demos: NBA 2k11 and NBA Jam. Basically, two versions of the exact same game.
But only to the uneducated and uninformed player, because you guys, they are SO totally different. For instance, NBA Jams is like the old-school arcade style basketball game and features current players. NBA 2k11 is a NEW basketball game and features current players and as an added bonus? IT FEATURES MICHAEL JORDAN. Because he....still plays? Because....that makes sense? (The answer is NO to both of those situations.)
NBA 2k11 PRO: Has Michael Jordan.
NBA 2k11 CON: Really hard and he can never beat it and then gets tired of playing and I yell at him for spending all that money and then not playing.
NBA Jams PRO: Awesome arcade game just like the one he played in 1987, and if he remembers correctly, the 7 year old him had. a. BLAST.
NBA Jams CON: Does not include Michael Jordan.
So what did he decide? The easy, old school JAMS game, which he played for about 15 minutes and ended up "beating the computer", which I guess is a good thing?
Now he's free to enjoy this game for the 2.3 times he'll open it and then will later sell it for half of what he bought it for through his Amazon business. The life of a gamer.
Do you like to play video games? Can you imagine a choice quite so difficult?

The Great Frosty Taste Test
Who remembers when I threw a little conniption fit about our local Wendy's and their ONE working Frosty machine?
If you didn't read it, refresh yourself. It was quite the debacle.
As I was reading through my comments, I discovered Surferwife was giving me a little tough love. She said, in so many words, that I should at least try the vanilla frosty because I was acting no better than a child. She told me that she'd foot the bill for this 99 cent Frosty if it meant I would at least try it, for crying out loud.
What if little baby Blogworthy just LOVED vanilla Frostys and his Mom was being a meanie by refusing to eat one? Pathetic how I was denying my child his right to try vanilla ice cream.
I realized she had a point.
That's when the Great Frosty Taste Test was born. I told her on Twitter that if she would send me $1, I would buy a vanilla Frosty and taste it on a vlog.
OK before you watch, two things: speaking of debacles, this vlog was one in the truest sense of the word. I recorded with my webcam and NEVER AGAIN because it was over 2MB and although I left it uploading all night, it still had 1000 minutes left this morning. So I had to bring it to work, where it failed again. THEN I finally converted it and the sound is a little off from the video, but I think you'll get the point. Enjoy.

Bet your local news is better than mine
Today I'm going to talk about asshats.
The people you see daily who wear their asses for a hat.
I'm sure you guys see them every day at work, at the grocery store, whilst sitting in traffic. Maybe even sometimes at your own home when your husband won't UNLOAD THE DISHWASHER FOR CRYING OUT LOUD THERE ISN'T SOME MAGIC DISHWASHING FAIRY THAT DOES IT.
Ahem.
This post is to help us better define what it means to be an asshat.
You know who is a big ol asshat? Lindsay Lohan. Really Lindsay, you couldn't make it to 30 days of sobriety before you failed a drug test. I don't know who on earth she's paying off, but I don't think I've ever seen a person, celebrity or not, who have ruined as many chances as she has. She's like a cat with 9 lives. The latest is after she failed the drug test she was out boozin' it up with her paid friends -- I mean, assistants -- and Tweeted about how sorry she was for letting everyone down and how she wanted to take full responsiblity. But not full responsibility for actually crafting the message, because according to US Weekly (which as you know NEVER gets anything wrong), her assistants helped her write it instead of her team of publicists, which begs the question, what exactly is she paying them for?
Asshats are people who have multiple assistants, yet have no discernible responsibilities or job. And giggle while they are confessing to failing a drug test.
Last night Hubby and I were getting ready to go to bed and he checked his phone one last time. Smart phones are a blessing and a curse. I was half asleep and I hear him say WOAH!
Hub: "The Situation" is following me on Twitter. I followed a bunch of people from Dancing With the Stars [TIME OUT here: he claims he does not enjoy Dancing With the Stars, but tell me then, why is it he'd follow them on the twat, hmmm? A mystery for another day.]
Me: He's probably one of those people who follow everyone who follows him.
Hub: I didn't follow him though. I followed others but not him because he's stupid.
So basically "The Situation" sought my husband out on Twitter for what reason...so he could get one more follower? Something stinks here, and I don't think it's Axe Body Spray and vodka...smells like...desperation.
Let's talk for one moment about "The Situation" and his nickname. Dude, your name is Michael. Mike. Let's get real, Mike: nobody created that name for you -- YOU made up your OWN nickname and it doesnt' even make sense.
My blog friends have amazing nicknames. BBCD? That makes sense. Random Blogette? That makes sense. Chicken? That makes sense.
But "The Situation"? What situation, exactly? Is it his abs? His tan? His hair? I don't understand. Am I too old to understand? Maybe his situation is how terribly he treats women. Now that would make sense.
*Breaking news! Apparently it is not the REAL "The Situation" but a "The Situation" imposter! well he's still an asshat if for no other reason that that ridiculous nickname. Definition updated to reflect this news.*
An asshat is also someone who creates a lame nickname for himselfand then follows random people in a desperate attempt to increase his Twitter followers and thus his quickly ticking 15 minutes of fame.
Then, locally, there is a TV station who basically hires students all the live long day to stink up the place with their terrible reporting and inability to use a professional camera. It's like a comedy that is always renewed and never goes on summer hiatus. We were watching the other night and two things were notable:
Actually, maybe I'm just a little jealous of that last one.
How do you define asshat?

- One of the anchors not only has a severe case of bitchface, but also has recently gotten extensions. Let's just say that HD does not treat this lady well. You could hang a hammock in her frown lines and sit a spell. She clearly hates her co-anchor -- think Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy after they break up (and if you haven't seen it, what's wrong with you? go rent it now!) So anyway, sisterfriend had short hair and then suddenly the next day it's 6 inches longer. Lady -- you are on TV. We can see the change. Horse hair in HD is not a good look for you. You ain't no spring chicken.
- The sports DIRECTOR is like, 14 years old. Or at least he looks 14 years old. Now I am thankful for good genes that make me look a little younger than I really am; however, I ain't no director of nothing. This guy looked like yesterday he was downing a bottle of formula and rocking quietly in a baby swing and then today put on his big boy pants and became sports director. It's like he crawled out of the womb with a microphone in his hand and on to the terrible set made of cheap Plexiglas, silver spray paint and dreams. The worst part is that he didn't have the fainest idea what was going on. I'm shocked he doesn't just wander around the set interviewing the desk or something.
Actually, maybe I'm just a little jealous of that last one.
How do you define asshat?

Dear Gretchen from Project Runway
Anybody following Project Runway this season?
I really don't like Gretchen.
Besides the fact that she's largely untalented and a little bit of a harpie, the following things need to happen with her in my personal and professional opinion and also the opinion of my sister:
- She needs to eat a hamburger (or two)
- She needs a good haircut
- She needs to lay off the meth, there are clinics for that.
- She could make do with some makeup. A spot of rouge, a sweep of mascara, a dab of gloss.
- She needs to buy some clothes at somewhere other than a thrift shop.
Then there is also the show On the Road with Austin and Santino, two contestants from old Project Runways, a show that makes me question my faith in what is real and what is a sketch comedy skit.
This show both fascinates and appalls me. My sister and I watched WAY too many episodes of this and then neither one could erase the imagine of this entirely too beautiful man from our brains. The premise is that these two guys "road trip" to small towns in the Midwest and teach some rubes how to be fabulous by making them ball gowns and cocktail dresses out of found items. Like literally, stuff they find that can be turned into various types of fabric. But I get way too distracted by Austin's alabaster skin and high, pink cheekbones. I just wish he would take a trip to Gretchen's hometown and teach her a thing or two about makeup and clothes.
We also watched Toddlers and Tiaras. It's clear that I have a love/hate relationship with this show, but it inspired me to do a "sassy pout" for my sister's camera:
So there's that.
What else? Oh, how could I almost forget the breathtaking spoiled-ness of the ladies of Say Yes to the Dress - Atlanta. Oh MERCY, do those women have problems only found in a first world nation. Tell me, how many of you have ever uttered the phrase "I already have two wedding dresses, but I just don't like them, so I'm here at this upscale boutique where dresses START at $1500 because Daddy wants his little girl to be happy on her special day"? I can imagine almost 100% of you have not, but 80% of the brides on this show have.
An example of "southern charm":
However, there is one extra bright spot to this show and that is Monte, the fashion director of the company. He is all kinds of awesome. He basically swoops in when a bride isn't sure that $5000 is worth it, "jacks her up" with a veil and some earrings, and guilts her into buying. It's phenomanal and I want Monte in my life always as a life coach. I want him to "jack up" my ideas and make everyone agree.
What do all these random shows have in common? They were all on the playlist of my Super Special Sister Saturday. I think Teen Mom was also on there for one hot minute, too. Random entertainment for some random girls.
Do you watch any of these shows? If you're married, how many wedding dresses did you have? Do you wish Toddlers & Tiaras would go die a fiery death?

It's Blogworthy Award: Most Ridiculous Story of the Week
Hey, y'all, welcome to..what day is it? Let me check the dry erase board outside:
Oh yeah, FREEKY FRIDAY, now with twice as many E's!
Thanks to all who voted on the most ridiculous story of the week last week. It sure was a pretty atrocious week and I was glad when it was over. This week has been decent except for the time when I got an injection straight into my buttcheek.
First order of business, the winner winner chicken dinner for the It's Blogworthy Award for Most Ridiculous Story of the week is, indubitably, the story of the Wicked Witch of Plantopia. And why wouldn't it be? She is ridiculous. We wanted to keep the peace so we wrote her a letter with three options for making it right ALTHOUGH WE DID NOTHING WRONG. Hub called a few law offices because we wanted to cover our bases in case she tried to sue us because crazy doesn't take a vacation and not ONE lawyer would even talk to us. They all said it wasn't worth their time. Lawyers said that. I didn't think lawyers turned down any chance to make money, but I guess we can all learn something from this situation.
So congrats, Wicked Witch of Plantopia, you've won!
Hope it's big enough to cover up that trimmed plant area! And P.S. you've now scared us badly enough that we're going to put up a privacy fence quick as a bunny! So thanks for that!
Enjoy your weekend, folks. I'm going to be chilling with my sister, some close friends, a sheet cake and lots of baby presents (it's shower time!) Then after that, we're going to eat lots of fattening food and spend Sunday watching Friends episodes!

Fun with a dry erase board. Fun used in the loosest sense of the word.
There's a small dry erase board in the stairwell of my office. It was originally placed there so different departments within the building could communicate with one another about times they left. I guess once, somebody locked up when someone else was still in the building and they set off the security alarm. So thus, this very high tech *mediocre* solution was formed.
At first someone got clever with it. They drew "leaving at 6:30 pm" in bubble letters. The next day someone drew a sun. Then the next day, someone drew a butterfly. Then someone erased the "leaving at 6:30" and drew a stick person with a net catching the butterfly. Now isn't that precious? Don't you want to walk in on some random Monday morning to see how someone much more cheerful and happy to be alive than you enjoys the medium of dry erase marker art? For crying out loud.
So a couple months passed and now we're taking it to a WHOLE new level. Multiple marker colors are involved. Pithy day of the week slogans. Crafty line art drawings. Approximately 50 people trying to "out wit" one another on a 8.5x11 dry erase board. It's just phenomenal.
I decided to take a week's worth of photos so y'all can see what I live with on the daily:
Oh good. Great. Let's start the week with a rhetorical question. And then later someone took it one step further and wrote "Because something has to link Sunday to Tuesday!"
Please keep in mind that it wasn't sunny that day or for at least 3 days before Tuesday because Florida doesn't do anything half-assed...if it's going to be hot, might as well be 10,000 degrees. If it's going to be rainy, get your ark makin' tools out because it will rain for days on end.
I honestly don't even.....why psycho? Why? What's psycho about it? Why did this person write the N backward? Why? This sign is a self-fulfilling prophecy because after I read it and tried to make sense of it, I became psychotic. Good call, dry erase board artist.
Yes, Terrestrial Thursday, this makes MUCH more sense. And somebody's breaking out the fancy markers on this one!
I'm just going to go ahead and presume the misspelling of freaky is intentional.
Now that you've seen a week's worth of dry erase board art, maybe you'll get inspired enough to drive your OWN coworkers crazy!

Who wants to watch TV with me
My hubby went on a baseball trip this weekend with some friends. While he's gone, I like to watch stuff he doesn't like. Here are some random, snarky thoughts I had whilst watching some of my guilty pleasures:
Intervention
Project Runway
Tweet
Intervention
- QUIT GIVING HIM MONEY.
- Clearly, it's not so much your son's drug problem that's making you poor so much as the $100,000 you've lost on the slot machines.
- The best thing about the first season this show is the plethora of bibbed overalls.
- You can tell it's 1995 because 1) they are super excited about Monica's pager and 2) Rachael runs straight up to the gate to tell Ross she loves him and if that took place in 2010, they'd stop her faster than you can say 'that pretty girl is a terrorist!'
- Is there something wrong with these people? There is NO way they act this rambunctious in real life.
- They make HOW MUCH per episode?
- My, my, my, Snookie is just effervescent.
- How much does Miami hate this, I wonder.
- I wish there would be a Very Special Episode of Intervention staring the entire cast of Jersey Shore as the people being intervened.
- Seriously, I sort of want to put Snookie in my pocket and bring her out just when I need a giggle.
- Aw. Kendra's alright. Just a wife and Mom who made some interesting and unique decisions in life.
- WHY AM I CRYING OVER THE KENDRA E! THS?
- A Charlie Sheen E!THS right after Kendra's E!THS? It's my lucky day!
- Hey! I didn't know Charlie Sheen dated Kelly Preston!
Project Runway
- I wonder how many Frostys Heidi Klum had while she was pregnant. My guess would be -10.
- Maybe I should buy a sewing machine and make my own clothes....
- Oh for crying out loud, quit sobbing about being sent home SECOND. Your clothes were crappy anyway. God, I haven't seen this many tears on a reality show since the Bachelor.

Happy Houseiversary!
Do y'all watch those shows on HGTV, like House Hunters or Property Virgins, where they look at 3 houses, choose one, make an offer and close in the tidy span of a half hour? And how excited they are, sitting in a room with everyone together: Realtor, lawyers, previous owners, the law office janitor, your Mom, several former boyfriends and the stray dog down the street?
How there are never any problems closing or financing?
How the television crew goes back a month later and the house is in perfect order, not a box in sight?
That.
Is.
MALARKEY.
You know what came and went without me even making a peep about it on this here blog OR Twitter? Our first Houseiversary! KLZ is getting ready for her new place and it reminded me. One year ago, on August 7, we closed on our new home. But the story begins much earlier in the year, around May 2009....
[ wavy lines representing going back in time in my mind ]
Hubby and I decided it was time to start house hunting. We wanted to put down some roots and that little $8k government stimulus was burning a hole in our pockets. Plus, we were getting tired of apartment living, what with the people stomping around above us and the lack of parking. We started to look online at the Reality sites and then a couple months later got a Realtor.
Ok, so this Realtor. We didn't know how to go about finding one, so Hub asked one of his friends, who suggested this guy. He went to the same church we did so we thought, oh, he's probably nice and will do a good job. WRONG. He was a bumbling idiot. I felt like I was in an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond or something because this guy was unbelievable. His name was JR and he typically sold farm land and commercial real estate, but was "nice enough" to help out us newbie property virgins.
Our first meeting with him was interesting. After telling him exactly what we wanted in a home, he told us it sounded like we didn't know, but he'd pull some houses for us from the database. He found a handful and we set up a meeting a few days later to look at them. We met at his office and we all climbed into this huge pick up truck with dog hair EVERYWHERE and headed our our adventure. The first house we saw, we fell in love with. It was just lovely and perfect for us. JR, said he was the type who didn't want to be "pushy", so he just sat down in the living room of this house and made some calls on his Blackberry.
Sat down. On the floor. To make calls.
After a long day of searching, and a couple days of SOUL searching, we decided to make an offer on this house. We met, again, at his office and started drawing up the paperwork. I had a number in mind for what we wanted to offer according to what would fit in our budget, but he started insisting our payment would be more than what we figured it would be. Turns out he was calculating the wrong tax rate. Smart! Oh, and that house? Already had an offer.
Here are some other things he did:
Then there was our financing. That was the biggest bunch of malarkey known to man. The mortgage broker guy was all, "Oh you guys are in GREAT shape, we'll have this done in no time! Closing date is August 4! Get excited people!" And then he promptly went out of town, leaving us in the "capable" hands of Tyler, who in reality should only have been trusted with things like filing paperwork and making coffee. Tyler screwed us royally by listing the WRONG closing date on our paperwork, then lying that it was the bank's fault. I yelled at him a lot. After the fact, bossman at the brokerage was like, "sorry for your troubles. Here is a gift card!"
So, right, August 5 was our original closing date. Tyler called one day and said it would be moved till the next day. And he continued this again and again until the closing date was August 7 -- but only maybe, if we could get the money transferred in time. Somehow, either the brokerage or the lawyers office was having trouble getting our money (which they had in their hot little hands by the original closing date) to the sellers, who wouldn't give up the keys until then. We were moving out of our apartment August 8. They were moving to Tallahassee August 6. You can see why we were frustrated.
Finally closing was set for 2 pm on August 7. We met JR at the house to take one last walk through before we signed the papers. He pulled out his magic key dispenser thing for the lock box -- and the batteries were dead. Like really, JR, you're going to pull one more screw up the last day we have to deal with you. Phenomenal. He heads around to the backyard and begins pulling on windows, hoping that one was unlocked. He tried the back door. He was trying to break into our new home!
After getting new batteries, he was able to retrieve the key. He just handed them to us and said, "Oh, you guys can probably just keep these. No reason putting the lock box back." But what about the dramatic "handing over the keys" I saw on Our First Place? I was robbed!
At one point it just started getting comical. We signed our lives away while JR played on his Blackberry, teased Hubby and stole pens from the desk. The lawyer started to fax our paperwork, then came back in a short time later and said a lightening storm earlier in the day had fried their fax machine and they were waiting to get it fixed. Fabulous. After waiting close to 3 hours, we were done, but the final nail in the coffin was that JR had to drive me home in his skunky truck because Hubby had to run to the bank before it closed.
There were no hugs, no tears of joy, no one saying excitedly, "Here are the keys to your new home!" It was all anti-climatic.
So in conclusion, my first real estate experience brought not only a new home, but at least 8 pounds from stress eating. Thank you, JR, for contributing to that stress.
Have you bought a home? Was it as messy as my home buying experience?

Here are some other things he did:
- Didn't answer our phone calls for various reasons, including but not limited to: phone battery died; showing houses (although we were trying to get a hold of him at a CRITICAL time and he obviously didn't have trouble answering when he was showing houses to us); out tending his cattle; bathroom emergency.
- Couldn't ever get someplace on time, like EVER.
- Teased Hubby ALL the time about everything he did, but in a way where it's not a joke, it's because he is annoyed.
- Told Hubby to sign first because "he's the man of the house".
Then there was our financing. That was the biggest bunch of malarkey known to man. The mortgage broker guy was all, "Oh you guys are in GREAT shape, we'll have this done in no time!
