Case of the Missing Peanut Butter

I just realized that I left y'all hanging on my last post. I promised to tell the story of the Missing Peanut Butter. Without further adieu..

My love of Publix has been documented many times, here and here. I am obsessed with BOGOs, so when I was able to buy two jars of Peter Pan peanut butter on BOGO with a coupon, I felt like I'd won the jackpot. We go through peanut butter quickly at our house, and that's without children to feed it to. Hubby prefers peanut butter and jelly over "meat sandwiches" any day (and as an aside, I really love when he calls them meat sandwiches for some reason, although that's what they are).

Wednesday night I was packing my own lunch and discovered that there was only one jar of peanut butter on the shelf. I remarked that we had a missing jar and he responded, "Yeah! I know! I had to open the other one! So now we have two open jars of peanut butter! Crazy!"

So I asked where the jar was.

"I have no clue! Can you believe that?" hubby said incredulously.

Ok you guys, I hadn't touched the peanut butter since I brought it home from the store. He was the only person who had picked the jar up and done anything with it. Which means he lost the peanut butter. AN ENTIRE JAR OF PEANUT BUTTER.

I searched our entire house for it. I looked in every lunch bag, every drawer, every shelf we have. I looked in the appliance shelf in the garage. I looked in our kitchen cart. The whole time I'm steamed because honestly? How do you lose a jar of PB? How is it even possible?

I should also mention here that he is a teacher, but doesn't have a room that is his alone, so there was no way he took the jar and left it at work. There's no break room or locker for him to leave the peanut butter.

He realizes at this point that I've been searching frantically for it and says, "don't worry, I'm sure it's somewhere. I'll find it."

We went to bed and I drift off to sleep thinking, this isn't like a set of keys or a cell phone. This isn't a hammer or a measuring tape. Those things can be misplaced easily. This is a jar of food. Don't people usually make the sandwich and leave the jar at home?

The story was way better a few days ago because I've since solved the mystery. I was cleaning up the kitchen and noticed a two wadded up Publix bags with cans of soda, a bag of chips and a jar of peanut butter in each. Apparently, he took his lunch in a Publix bag and accidently left it in the back of his SUV. We're back to two jars of peanut butter and peace is restored to our home.

Sorry if this story was a huge let down.

Do any of your husbands misplace things routinely?

Ha! This sounds like something that would happen to us, too. Glad the PB is found!

My husband puts things in places that make me nuts. Yesterday I found a pair of jeans in the garage. Which would mean he was taking off his clothes in the garage right? I didn't ask, cause I don't want to know. Once he put a half open granola bar in the letter box with all the bills. I can't begin to think how that happened. If the Peanut Butter had disappeared in my house it would be because my husband ate it and stashed the empty jar.

This totally sounds like something I would do. :) M is the organized one with his head screwed on straight and I'm always losing my keys...my glasses (even when they are on my head)...everything.

I also have the tendency to put things away where they don't belong (ie: can of corn in the freezer).

I'm kind of an airhead.

The peanut butter story was not a let down at all. Funny stuff! And Sister totally needs a blog, lots of fodder for the pen in that house! Beautiful kitties, absent-minded professor husband, utterly cool job, yup, needs a blog!
